What Is the Lexus Extended Warranty?
Lexus offers car buyers three tiers of extended warranty coverage to keep them on the road longer. Customers can choose their terms and mileage and pay accordingly.
Lexus Extra Care Platinum
This tier is the highest and covers everything the other two tiers do as well as additional components like pedals and door handles.
Lexus Extra Care Gold
This option sits firmly between the Platinum and Powertrain tiers. It doesn’t cover everything but does provide a middle-of-the-road level of protection.
Lexus Extra Care Powertrain
Lexus owners can protect their vehicles’ engines, transmissions, and front- and rear-wheel drive systems with the Powertrain plan.
Lexus Additional Protection Plans
Lexus offers plans that cover items from accessories to tires.
Genuine Lexus Accessories Warranty
Accessories that are purchased at the same time as the vehicle are covered for 48 months or 50,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date.
Accessories purchased any other time are covered for 12 months from when they were bought.
Guaranteed Auto Protection
If a vehicle is deemed a complete loss, Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP) can waive or pay the difference between the amount still owed on a finance contract and an auto insurance settlement. GAP types and availability vary by state.
Prepaid Maintenance Plans
Lexus offers flexible prepaid plans that cover routine maintenance and multi-point inspections for the following times and mileages:
- 2 years or 20,000/25,000/30,000 miles

Should I Get the Lexus Extended Warranty?
While an extended warranty may be an investment, it can save you time, money, and stress on unexpected repairs. Repairs for any vehicle can grow more expensive as time goes on. Lexus vehicles are no different. Even though Lexus is cheaper to fix than other luxury cars, repairs can quickly add up.
If a Lexus owner plans to keep their vehicle for several years after they pay it off, buying an extended warranty might be a wise decision. If you do determine that an extended warranty is right for you, then you should compare quotes from Lexus and other providers to determine which is best.
Lexus Extended Warranty vs. Third-Party Extended Warranty
If you’re looking for an extended warranty, there are plenty of third-party options to consider outside of the manufacturer.
Endurance [Review], CarEdge [Review], and Olive.com [Review] also offer extended warranties.

Can I Cancel the Lexus Extended Warranty?
Lexus owners can cancel their extended warranties within 30 days for a full refund. There is a $50 processing fee. After 30 days, cancellations will be prorated. Each state may have its own cancelation policies.
What To Do When Your Lexus Car Warranty Expires
When your warranty is about to expire, you have to decide whether you want to buy an extended warranty or not. If you need help deciding, you should:
- Figure out how long you plan to keep your vehicle: You might want extra coverage if you want to keep your vehicle for a sizable period of time.
- Evaluate how much you can afford: Knowing how much you can spend can come in handy when it’s time for the following step.
- Get and compare quotes from the dealer and third-party companies: Determine what price and coverage best fit your needs and budget.
Lexus Maintenance Guide
Failing to follow Lexus’ maintenance outlined guide can void the warranty coverage, so it’s important to properly upkeep your vehicle.
Lexus recommends that after roughly three months, you have a vehicle check-in with an under-the-hood inspection. Furthermore, after 6 months, you should have a more thorough check-in that includes tire rotations, tire change, etc.
