What EV Incentives Are Available in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has the following incentives in place for electric vehicles and associated purchases for charging:
- Purchase rebate of up to $3,500.
- Additional rebates of:
- $1,500 for low-income buyers
- $1,000 for the trade-in of a combustion vehicle
- Utility programs for home wiring upgrades and off-peak charging rebates

Incentives for Purchasing an EV in Massachusetts
Massachusetts offers a rebate for up to $3,500 off the purchase or lease of a new electric vehicle through the MOR-EV program.
To qualify, EV buyers must meet the following purchase criteria:
- Vehicle MSRP must be below $55,000.
- Vehicle must be registered in Massachusetts.
- Vehicle must be retained for at least 36 months.
- Application must be submitted within three months of purchase or lease.
The Bay State also offers a rebate of up to $3,500 for used electric vehicles, with the following qualification criteria for MOR-EV Used:
- Vehicle MSRP must be below $40,000.
- Vehicle must be registered in Massachusetts.
- Applicants must meet one of two income-based criteria:
- 1) Adjusted gross income under: i. $150,000 for married filing jointly (or a surviving spouse) | ii. $112,500 for heads of households | iii. $75,000 for all other filers.
- 2) Approved recipient of an income-qualifying program in Massachusetts.
- Vehicle must be retained for at least 36 months.
- Application must be submitted within three months of purchase or lease.

Other EV Incentives Offered in Massachusetts
Massachusetts offers various post-purchase incentives for electric vehicle charging, maintenance, or related benefits. These include:
- Eligible Eversource customers in Massachusetts can receive between $700 and $1,400 in rebates for home EV charging.
- Rebates for home wiring upgrades to enable home EV charging with National Grid.
- Discounted off-peak charging at home as part of the National Grid Charge Smart program.
- Residents of communities with municipal electric providers may qualify for charge station funding under individual town programs.
