Well mostly, rather than using Truecar or the equivalent to get quotes, I just submitted inquiries to all the dealers for the car I wanted that were within a 120 mi radius. I'd already identified the car I wanted and checked prices through Consumer Reports and Truecar before I started.
Not only did I save over $750 from the lowest initial bid I received, which was already a good price given that I was buying a 2013 at the end of November, I was able to conduct the entire process without ever speaking to a car salesperson on the phone.
